2001. A year of changes, a new challenge! In the race program of our federation, combine and National Section we do have the longdistance races, Ruffec 843 km, Brive 850 km , Bergerac 945 km as night-out race. This means that the birds are released at a time after lunch, and the birds will not be able to make it on the first day. So called two-day races. I have won many long-distance championships, Ace-pigeons long-distance, but there is one thing that never had happend to me yet, mid-night arrivals ! This is the challenge..........clock pigeons in the middle of the night from a long-distance two-day race. I have been following the guys that did clock in the middle of the night or very early morning and I decided to have a go at it. The future Herman Beverdam Nightflyers are composed on the following families or foundation cocks. Let me introduce a few of them:

Two half-brothers bred from the same mother both arriving in the night and clocked at day-break, found sitting on the loft ! The droppings showing that they must have been there already for a while ! They were bred by Thei Hermans from Helden Beringe and you will find their full pedigree with their full-brothers later in the studlist. He bred his pigeons from the pure Jan Aardens of Dick Stern.

This Thei Hermans family of birds are of great class and probably the most underrated long-distance family, when looking at the results that others had with his pigeons. Many 1st National Winners do carry the succesfull genes of this mans birds. The 2002 National Champion Long Distance WHZB founded his loft on them ! The National Champion Long Distance WHZB 1994 ....his pigeons ! National winner Barcelona 2001, International Winner 2001 "RIKA" NL98-1554716 her sire is his bloodline and so on and so on. In the same issue of the NPO no. 28....Bordeaux winner afd. Limburg 10.000 birds of Pau Benders from Hout Blerick, Thei Hermans bloodlines in him. Struggling with his health and accepting his prices I was able to obtain his very best foundation birds including his best racers of the last seasons. In one blow I had a fantastic family of pigeons and what next.

The Löwik Brothers in Almelo had a terrific season again, They fly in my area and I know how hard it is to clock in the Nationals on our distance. This loft would win in 2002 for the third time on the trott the VNC Championship, in this National Racing Club with about 1.000 members the most respected long-distance club here up north east. In 2001 these guys did clock no less than 7 birds in the middle of the night or before ending of neutralisation time Brive 888km, clocked at 04.17, "BRIVE HEN", parents moved to Enter, 04.46 again, winning 2, 3, 2.909 birds, 2, 3, 3.276 birds, beaten by a bird racing 8km longer distance and arriving at 04.37... Bordeaux 993 km of 4 entries they clock at 04.37, 3rd NATIONAL, Bergerac 951 km, 2nd NATIONAL 22.283 birds ! Unfortunately they were beaten twice by longer flyers on National Level and so instead of winning twice first National, is was twice 2nd National ! Limoges 2001, the battle was on for the championship of the VNC National Club the arrivals were 1e........ 01.51, 2e .....02.29, 3e .....02.52, 4e.......03.49, FOUR BIRDS CLOCKED IN THE NIGHT !!!! Winning 1, 2, 3, 4, VNC 1.328 birds !! I was able to buy the winning hen and family arround her. A full-round of youngsters from his stock and best racers followed in 2002 including some of the best pairs and racers! Funny enough one finds as foundation blood a bird from Dick Stern......same as the Thei Hermans!

Another loft that could not be pased was the one of Wilfried Stiel of Arcen, he won in 2000 everything what could be won International and National, but he is also known for clocking in the night in 1997 from Bergerac National at 23.45, 00.15 and 00.30 NIGHT ! 06.15 on National St. Vincent 2nd NATIONAL, 1998 on National Dax at 04.48, winning 1st National Dax ! In 2000 at 04.32 winning Bordeaux, First International, with Cinderella, yes her sire is now in my loft ! You will find these exceptional birds in the pairings for 2003.
